Ante-natal
checks, delivery support and neonatal care
The clinic has two delivery rooms and a total
of ten beds across three wards and space for ante-natal
discussions and examinations. We also encourage all pregnant
women to know their HIV status as we have necessary drugs
to prevent mother to child transmission (PMTCT). During
the Tuesday 'booking-in' ANC sessions, the women are taken
through a review of their health, past pregnancies and
deliveries and their household situation. In line with
government health policy laboratory tests are performed
and we can provide iron and vitamin supplements as well
as intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) for malaria.
Through a partnership with another project we also distribute
LLIN mosquito nets to each pregnant woman.

Baby is safe with Hope Clinic |
Maternity room for check-ups |
The
provision of maternal care during delivery and the immediate
post-delivery care for the baby and the mother are struggles
in all countries with rapidly expanding populations and
under-funded health services. With the help of donations
and our relationships with other implementers, we do what
we can. Our midwives and nurses are caring and patient
and mothers have a delivery room to themselves, hot showers
and nearby toilet and then can rest after the delivery
in the maternity ward with their baby safely in a cot
next to them. Support from DFCU banking group and the
Royal Embassy of Belgium means that we can more effectively
monitor the baby during delivery and have oxygen and instruments
to care for mother and baby in the critical first hours.
You
can support us to keep the costs faced by the
patients to a minimum. Hope Clinic Lukuli does not exist
to make profits to pay offsite managers - all the receipts
and donations pay for the Ugandan staff working at the
clinic, the upkeep of the equipment and facility and the
drugs and consumables we use to look after the patients.
If the items are given free to the clinic, such as mosquito
nets for pregnant women, we pass them on to the patients.
If a sponsor, such as Aggreko in 2006, can meet the cost
of a midwife's employment, that means we don't have to
include that cost in the charges for deliveries at the
clinic. Use the PayPal button to donate now, or use Gift
Aid in the UK. Our midwives represent a cost to the
clinic each month of Shs 500,000 (GBP 150, USD 200). Our
