Maternal health advice and affordable services need you help.
If you would like to help us now, please follow this link for a standard letter to a UK bank for a Standing Order to the UK Charity. A second form, signed and posted to the charity office allows us to reclaim Gift Aid from the UK Government for your donations. Thank you for taking action to help us. Letter to Bank Gift Aid Form If you are outside the UK, the account details can remain the same but your local bank may have its own forms. Use the banking information of our account with Lloyds TSB if you are an online bank user.

A big thank you to Aggreko (International in Dubai and Plc in the UK) for linking Hope Clinic Lukuli with your staff in Kampala. The clinic has trained a first group of 30 Aggreko staff in HIV awareness, the correct attitudes towards prevention, reducing stigma and counselling as well as understanding the health and care options for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

In addition to the training, Aggreko made a donation to the clinic for 2005/06 which will particularly help with staffing requirements as our patient numbers continue to grow. For 2007, the expanded Aggreko business in Uganda has brought further staff for training in HIV and First Aid and donation of a further Shs 10 million.

Support has been received and is welcome in many forms: helping us to link with and gain access to an existing programme seeking an outreach location; links to volunteers and self-funded individuals with professional expertise for one day, short term or longer relationships; guidance on grant providers or offers to link us to a group of friends looking for a safe project to support. If you already know of a way to help us or have equipment or funds please contact us by e-mail and we can discuss it further. E-mail: support@hcluganda.org I read the Bank or Gift form

Sponsor a staff member
The main area of expenditure in the working of the clinic which requires funding other than from the receipts from patients is the employment costs of the medical staff. At present the management committee are covering this cost from pledges that have been received. However, we welcome a group or individual who would like to ‘sponsor’ a post in the staffing structure.

Insure us: We have now completed the building, estimated value in excess of GBP 25,000 excluding donations and discounts. We also have at least $20,000 of equipment and fittings already in place. We need to insure these and if you wanted a safe way to support us, the premium would be fully accountable!

The staff we have, with the cost of employment, include:

Clinical Officer (also called Medical Assistant) Shs 860,000 pm acting as Medical Manager overseeing the medical standards (GBP 1,500/ US$2,200 for six months)

Experienced Counsellor (HIV/AIDS and youth) Shs 860,000pm (GBP 1,500/US$ 2,200 for six months)

Registered Midwife or Nurse (PMTCT trained) Shs 520,000pm (GBP 885/ US$ 1,300 for six months)

Laboratory Assistant (Malaria and HIV tests) Shs 550,000pm (GBP 950/ US$ 1,400 for six months)

These amounts represent the net pay that is received by the staff member and as the clinic grows the employment costs include a larger payroll tax bill and contributions to state pension. We really appreciate Su's recent support by celebrating her birthday with a collection to sponsor a midwife for several months.

Sponsor a ward or service
In the new premises we will also be able to offer friends the chance to sponsor a service such as the laboratory reagents, or the malaria test equipment or the HIV testing and counsellors.

Equipment needs
The clinic has a base level of equipment from the former management and also donations and funds that have been provided from past grants. To expand our services - 100 deliveries or 250 ante-natal checks per month, or additional child immunisation or HIV client service days - will require additional beds, drip stands and delivery trolleys as well as advancing the equipment we use to include sterilisers, incubators and additional sets of hand-held equipment for deliveries and treatment of patients.

If you would like to receive our list of needs, please contact us by e-mail at support@hcluganda.org
