Cheltenham Cleeve Vale - helping at home and overseas

The Director of Hope Clinic Lukuli visited Cheltenham in July and August 2007, taking Fellowship with the club. Philip Mitchell made a presentation on the growth of Hope Clinic Lukuli since the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale and Rotary International had supported it in 2004 and 2005.

The support of the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale began with a collaboration with the Rotary Club of Makindye, the part of Kampala where the Hope Clinic Lukuli is located. The support enabled the new premises to be equipped with furniture and medical instrument.

The matching grant also enabled the new clinic to buy a power back-up system which is a lifeline in Uganda as power goes off for several hours every two or three days. The grant also purchased security fencing and with the inverter made the clinic safe for staff and clients to work at night when our maternity service is busiest.

Although the Matching Grant was concluded in 2006, with the handover of 1,500 Long Lasting Insecticide-treated Net (LLIN), the individual members of the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale have continued to follow the work of the clinic and support its work.

During 2007, the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale as a club and as individuals have made significant financial contributions to the work of Hope Clinic Lukuli.

From the management and the staff of Hope Clinic Lukuli, and on behalf of the community that benefit from your help - THANK YOU.

Next to her areZaituni, who is our community outreach leader and Angela who is a graduate of counselling and guidance and leads our HIV counselling team. Michael is our long serving laboratory technician, and Jackie is the longest serving staff member, Jackie, who has been with us since the founding of the clinic.
